COACH OF THE YEAR
Max Luckhurst, Campolindo
Under Luckhurst's guidance, Campolindo became the first East Bay team in the modern North Coast Section era to three-peat as section champions. The Cougars were also one of the top teams in the state, beating such talented out-of-area teams as Palo Alto, El Toro-Lake Forest and Serra-San Mateo. A 6-3 win over Dougherty Valley in the NCS Division II championship game gave the Cougars a 23-4-1 record to end the season.
PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Paul Blackburn, Heritage
Drafted No. 56 overall by the Chicago Cubs, Blackburn went 10-3 with a 0.93 ERA and 100 strikeouts for the Patriots. Opposing hitters batted just .159 against him. The right-hander also provided one of the highlight games of the season, throwing a no-hitter against league rival Deer Valley on May 1.
First team
CHRIS FLEXEN, Newark Memorial, Sr., pitcher -- New York Mets signee went 9-2 with a 0.44 ERA and 125 strikeouts. He was just as good at the plate, hitting .368 with 17 RBIs.
MITCHELL KRANSON, De La Salle, Sr., catcher -- The East Bay Athletic League MVP hit .383 with 24 RBIs for the NCS Division I champs. He's headed to Cal next season.
MAX DUTTO, San Ramon Valley, Sr., infield -- Cal-bound shortstop hit .350 with
four home runs and 28 RBIs and played tremendous defense.DREW JACKSON, Miramonte, Sr., infield -- Stanford-bound shortstop hit .431 with 20 extra-base hits and 23 stolen bases. He also pitched for the Matadors.
JAKE JEFFERIES, Foothill, Sr., infield -- Headed for Cal State Fullerton, Jefferies hit .474 with 19 RBIs and 13 extra-base hits for the NCS Division I semifinalists.
ROBBIE TENEROWICZ, Campolindo, Jr., infield -- Already committed to Cal, Tenerowicz hit .457 with 21 extra-base hits and 37 RBIs.
DOMINIC BILOTTI, College Park, Sr., outfield -- Bilotti hit .414 with 10 RBIs and also burned the basepaths for the Falcons with 19 stolen bases.
SEAN PETERS, De La Salle, Sr., outfield -- Also headed to Cal, Peters sparked the Spartans offense with a .380 batting average, 16 RBIs, 10 extra-base hits and 14 stolen bases.
BRETT STEPHENS, Campolindo, Jr., outfield -- UCLA commit hit .418 with 12 extra-base hits and 22 walks as the table setter for a dynamic Cougars offense.
CODY SNIDER, Dougherty Valley, Jr., utility -- As the Wildcats ace pitcher, Snider went 9-3 with a 1.88 ERA. At the plate, he hit .318 with 17 extra-base hits and 23 RBIs.
