Every holiday there are many traditions many American families choose to follow when it comes to their Christmas celebrations. According to roofers, some families like to put up Christmas lights all over their home as soon as it is acceptable. Others prefer to have patio enclosures installed so they can have their Christmas tree placed in this area of the home. What is very interesting is that each American family has their own way to celebrate Christmas during the month of December, but many times Americans follow some similar traditions. Below are some of the most popular family traditions that are observed throughout the month of December to celebrate Christmas:

1. Baking cookies and/or making gingerbread houses. This has become a family tradition when children and their parents bake Christmas goodies to give as gifts for their friends and family they will see over the holiday. This activity used to be something mothers would complete with their children while the children were on break for the holiday, but more recently it has become an activity that the whole family can enjoy, especially when it comes to decorating the cookies and the gingerbread house.

2. Selecting a Christmas tree. With this tradition, families either choose to purchase a new, real tree every year or families purchase a factory-made tree to avoid the hassle of buying a new tree every year. Either way, it is decorating the tree that has become a tradition for many families. It is a great time to relax and decorate the tree in each family's own special way each year.

3. Christmas is also the time for Christmas present shopping. Each year, Americans budget their time and money on what they will spend when it comes to Christmas gifts. For thousands of Americans, Christmas shopping starts with the traditional 'Black Friday' or day-after Thanksgiving shopping spree when most stores have amazing deals and the good deals are first-come first served. Other consumers choose to shop throughout the month of December for that Christmas shopping experience throughout the month. Finally, others shop at all different times of the year in order to avoid Christmas shopping during the entire month of December.

4. Families also tend to watch their favorite Christmas movies throughout the month and even on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. There are many different types of Christmas movies from which to choose. Each family usually has a select few that they will watch during the month of December.

5. Finally, many families and young couples, especially those with children like to see some kind of lights show. Zoos and large neighborhoods across the nation have famous Christmas lights for people to watch while sipping coffee or hot chocolate.

Tradition is a very important part of American culture and it is something that has become part of Christmas culture in the United States. Each family has their own way of celebrating Christmas throughout the month of December, which makes this holiday one of the most special times of the entire year.
