The best iPhone and iPad apps this week

Deus Ex: The Fall (?Free/?4.99)

Deus Ex: The Fall

Unlike the increasing number of console ports we?re seeing hit the various app stores, Deus Ex: The Fall is a brand new, made-for-mobile game in the series. Set in 2027, and ? for you real fans ? directly after the Deus Ex: The Icarus Effect novel, it casts you as one of the protagonists from that book, former British SAS Mercenary, Ben Saxon. You're pitted against ? oh, what a surprise ? a global consipiracy. What it lacks in originality, it makes up for with console-quality graphics and hours of gameplay ? you can kiss goodbye to your weekend once you download this.?

Ashes Event Centre (?Free/?4.99)

Ashes Event Centre

It's Ashes time again, and to ensure you don?t miss a wicket, Sky Sports has launched the Ashes Event Centre ? its first ever second-screen cricket experience ? as part of its Sky Sports for iPad app. It allows you to watch ball-by-ball coverage wherever you are, along with key moment replays and easy-to-see live match and player statistics as well. You can even review every ball yourself with the integrated Hawk-Eye app too. Sky Sports customers get this coverage for free, though non-subscribers can pay for the coverage on a standalone basis for ?4.99 a month via an in-app purchase

Secret.li (?Free)

Secret.li

If you?ve ever wrangled with picture privacy settings on Facebook, Secret.li helps simplify the whole procedure, so only the people you choose can see your photos. It also follows in the footsteps of services like Snapchat, allowing you to set a certain period of time for the photo to be viewable on Facebook itself. The friends you select will be notified they have a photo waiting for them, but no one else will know a thing. For secret food picture sharing. Obviously.

Rockpack (?Free)

Rockpack

Rockpack is a great, visual way of cramming all the video you enjoy from around the web into one place ? from music to cooking, gaming to sports. Browse the hundreds of channels created for different interests, subscribe to the ones you like and create your own channel (or channels) filled with the videos you really love. You can even create a music playlist from YouTube and AirPlay it to your TV. It certainly looks the part and, of course, comes with all the social media sharing options you?d expect.

Cal (?Free)

Cal

While the calendar app in iOS works just fine, it?s more functional than beautiful. If you?d rather see something a little more pretty when checking when your next dentist appointment is, Cal is well worth a look. Meetings, for example, are saved with maps of the location (or it can suggest one nearby) and pictures of those attending, birthdays can show full screen photos of your friend, with contact details and social networking links there and waiting for you, and it can also connect with the Any.do app (by whom Cal is made) to integrate your tasks for that day for a one stop shop of life organisation.
