PanARMENIAN.Net - Ashton Kutcher opens up about his decision to star as Steve Jobs, one of the most influential people in the technology industry, in Joshua Michael Stern's upcoming movie "jOBS". The Michael Kelso depicter on "That '70s Show" takes to Quora to explain why he wanted to take on the role in the first place, AceShowbiz said.
Kutcher reveals that the screenplay initially made him have "great reservations" since it was not "entirely flattering" to the late Apple founder's character. However, he made up his mind to proceed for four reasons. First off, he could not imagine another actor portraying the legendary man without due respect.
He writes, "If this film becomes an enduring memory, of a man I admire, I wanted to ensure that it was portrayed by someone who cared about his legacy and took the time to represent him in a way that people who were close to Steve felt to be authentic."
Though the idea of playing the role "terrified" him, Kutcher found it challenging. "The chance to portray someone who not only lived but who is still very relevant and alive in the zeitgeist seemed to be a once-in-a-lifetime challenge," the 35-year-old actor adds.
Through the movie, Kutcher who is now a tech investor through his own firm, A-Grade Investments, could also get many priceless opportunities. "So while researching the role I was able to spend countless hours studying tech design, product, and history," he says.
"It also afforded me the opportunity to meet with several of Steve's peers who happen to be icons of the tech world."
Last but not least, the "Two and a Half Men" star "loved what the film stands for." He reasons, "I wanted to remind entrepreneurs that Steve Jobs wasn't always 'Steve Jobs', that he struggled, that he failed, and that he rigorously persevered to build something great to improve other people's lives."
"jOBS" recently posted a trailer on Instagram, becoming the first movie to do so. It is due out August 16 in the U.S.
