Islamists in Israel held a rally Saturday in support of Egypt's deposed president?Mohammed Morsi, and his the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood party.
About 2,000 people were estimated to have attended the protest at Kafr Kana in the Galilee, which was organized by the Islamic Movement.
The movement's leader, Sheikh Raed Salah, told the crowd that the ?coup? in Egypt is ?a plot? hatched against the legitimate government in Egypt by internal and external forces, and first and foremost by ?the Israeli occupation state and the U.S.?
Sheikh Salah said that Egypt and the Egyptian people are capable of crossing the border into Israel, to liberate the Al Aqsa mosque (on the Temple Mount) from "Israeli occupation."
"The coup in Egypt was not against President Mohammed Morsi,? he declared, ?but against the liberation of Palestine and against the honor of the Arabs.?
He further accused liberals in Egypt of choosing to be ?a Trojan horse for the Zionist and western endeavor.?
Salah called on the Egyptian army to keep its compass pointed at Jerusalem and the Al Aqsa mosque, ?in order to free them from the Israeli occupation.?
Ra'ed Salah has a long history of anti-Israel and antisemitic comments.
During a speech at a?2007 demonstration he infamously accused Jews of using children's blood to bake blood, invoking the medieval blood libels used to trigger murderous pogroms in both Europe and the Middle East. ?He also called for a "third intifada" over Israeli plans to excavate near the Temple Mount.
Salah also spent a brief period in jail for transferring money to Hamas, and famously "reminisced" fondly over the drawing of swastikas as a child, in a 2009 interview with a London-based?Arabic language TV station.
